Fica situado na crista do outeiro da Papalva*, nome herdado dum pequeno pássaro de cor acinzentada e o macho com papo acastanhado, hoje quase extinto, por o seu habitat ter sido profundamente afectado pelo uso intensivo de fertilizantes químicos e de pesticidas.
Era deste outeiro que nos velhos tempos se observava a caça à baleia por baleeiros do Pico, que, em pequenos e frágeis botes, enfrentavam com coragem e determinação o ?monstro?, e se vibrava com todas as peripécias da faina, e se chorava quando ocorriam incidentes trágicos, com perda de vidas humanas. *(Erithacus - rubecula)

It is located at the top of Papalva hill, named after a small grayish bird and having in the male a brownish pouch, nowadays almost extinct, due to the wide use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, that have deeply affected its natural habitat.
It was from Papalva hill that was watched, in the old days, the whaling by Pico whalers, who, in small and fragile boats, faced the monsters with courage and determination, and from where it was followed, step by step, all the hunting operation, cheering a happy ending, or expressing sorrow when the tragedy eventually occurred, with loss of human lives. *(Erithacus - rubecula)
